Methodology

How we score a Codebase Review, and what the numbers do and do not mean.

A Codebase Review is an independent, informational analysis of a subnet's public code and activity. It is not a security audit, formal assurance engagement, or certification, and not a guarantee that any code is safe, secure, or bug-free. A review is our reasoned opinion at a point in time; code changes after we publish, and no review finds every issue.

The composite score

Each review carries a single composite from 0 to 10, a weighted blend of the dimensions our engine assesses. The composite is an editorial measure, not a price prediction, a performance forecast, or a rating in any regulated sense. The full per-dimension breakdown, with the reviewer's reasoning, sits inside the review itself and is available to members.

The four tiers

The composite maps to one of four maturity tiers.

NascentDevelopingMatureBest-in-class
Nascent 0-3
Placeholder or fundamentally incomplete. No real implementation of this dimension yet.
Developing 3-6
Real but uneven. Functional with significant gaps or weaknesses to address.
Mature 6-8
Solid, production-grade engineering with minor gaps.
Best-in-class 8-10
Exemplary work that sets the bar across reviewed subnets.

Attestation

Published reviews carry an Attested marker recording which version of the IntoCode engine scored which commits, under which methodology version, and when. It is a provenance and integrity record, not third-party verification and not a claim that the code is secure.

Published reviews are signed by the IntoCode engine. We publish the public keys used to sign them at /.well-known/intocode-signing-keys.json. The registry is append-only and each attestation records the key it was signed with, so older reviews stay checkable across key rotation.

Versioning

Our methodology carries a version label (for example 2026.06). A review cites the version in force when it was scored, so an older review is read against the methodology of its time, consistent with a reasoned opinion at a point in time.
